CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR BIG CALL UP

Hull Ionians Women are proud to announce the inclusion of former Captain Kat Turner, in the preseason training squad for Leicester Tigers.

There’s been no doubt that Kat has been destined for big things since she first stepped out onto the rugby pitch back in 2015, representing the University of Lincoln.

Since then, she’s gone on to represent both Yorkshire and NLD at county level, as well as time at Lincoln Ladies and captaining the Hull Ionians Women for 3 seasons.

Kat has made huge waves since first joining Hull Ionians in 2018, captaining the team to an impressive 2nd place finish and helping to grow numbers to a squad of over 30 women.
She has also acted as a much needed assistant to Coach Andy ‘Fuzz’ Turner, who will be continuing with the Hull Ionians Women next season, despite Kat’s absence.

Speaking about her journey into Leicester Tigers, Kat said…

“I got sent a link from a team mate saying that they were doing some open trials for a new womens team and just thought stuff it, I’ve got to give it a go! So I applied and was invited to a trial, turned up to the trial and awaited the results! 2 more trials later and here I am”

Kat, who is renowned for her ferocious tackles, technical ability and incredible knowledge of the game, went on to say…

“For me it’s just trying to push myself further and further, my dad always pushed himself and managed to play at a higher level and I’ve always admired that. It’s time to develop and see where I can go.”

“What I’m most excited about is learning new things and developing my game more. I’m excited to see where this opportunity will take me. Also the chance of playing at welford road, who wouldn’t want that!”

“Playing at Hull Ionians has given me the building blocks and the confidence to do something like this, everyone is always so supportive and genuinely the best rugby team anyone could wish for.
I’s have been a family for me and I will always be a part of them. If it all goes wrong i know I can come back and will be welcomed with open arms. Even the support of the club members, especially Steve Townend who’s encouraged and supported this opportunity.”

I’m sure I speak for the entire team when I say Kat will be missed, but we cannot wait to be cheering her from the sidelines next season when Leicester Tigers enter into Championship 1 North.
