Hull Ionians Spartans Under 11s kicked off the new season with two outstanding wins over Beverley and Goole, with all twenty two players in the squad playing their part in the victories. Game one against Beverley started at a very fast pace and Ionians scored within two minutes when Thomas Shirra's run from half way put them 5-0 up. The Ionians forwards took control of the scrums led by Chris Fox, Jack Bailey, Lucas Powell and Finley Carmichael Graves. This allowed the backs to play some open rugby and they soon scored again this with a run from well inside his own half by Jack Scaife. Some poor defending gave Beverley the chance to hit back and get on the scoresheet, but back came Ionians with more forward pressure leading upto a try from newcomer Jack Cochran. A fabulous run from Thomas Shirra was rewarded when Ben Teasdale collected the ball and score Ionians fourth try and on the stroke of half time Red Silk made a try saving tackle to keep the score at 20-5 in favour of the Ionians. Beverley scored straight from the kick off with a converted try but this was to be the last time they troubled the scoreboard as Ionians took full control this time with the great tackling coming from Jack Wilson, James Walgate and Joe Baarda. As the pressure mounted on Beverley it was Red Silk scoring his first try for Ionians and Joe Baarda converting then quickly followed by the move of the match when great ball handling skills and passing between Red Silk and Jack Hassard put Jack Cochran in for his second try of the game. As the match came to an end it was Ioanians again who scored with Joe Layden putting in a powerful run and laying the foundation for Red Silk to get his second of the game and a 37-12 victory for Ionians. Also playing their part in the win were Matthew White, Lucas Powell and Joe Boanas.
