The first 15 minutes was all Buccaneers pressure and after ten minutes they deservedly took the lead when the pack drove a line-out from the 22 all the way to the line for Dan Pinder to ground the ball for the try. Five minutes later all the players from both sides thought they had scored again as Will Gaunt peeled off and dived over off another drive but as the ball bounced away after he grounded it the referee ruled he had bounced it so try disallowed.
Both teams relied on up and under or pick and go to make ground in the wet conditions but Driffield made better headway to earn a penalty goal. Then two minutes from half time they fielded a poor kick and raced through a gap for a converted try to lead 10-5 at the break.
The second half saw sustained Driffield dominance of field position and they increased their lead with a penalty goal then a converted try from a quickly taken close range penalty. The Buccs made one good final drive but again had a try disallowed as the grounding was unseen.
