Good win for the Hawks in their last game of the year

Hull Ionians Hawks 24 Driffield 13
The Hawks were looking for a decent fixture and were happy to travel to Driffield who were unbeaten in their last six games. The first half hour was an even affair with Ionians creating the nearest attempts to scoring when Ally Wilde then Sanele Sibamba got the ball over the line but were adjudged to have been held up. Ionians were not to be denied though and after further pressure led to Ally Wilde going over for a clear cut try. The Hawks doubled their lead shortly afterwards when Ally Wilde then Josh Thundercliffe made ground down the middle before finding the electric pace of Jack Colbourne. Jack looked certain to score but the Driff full back did amazingly well to stop him, but a well-timed off load found classy centre Sam Forbes who touched down to score one of the best Hawks tries of the season.
Driffield hit back on the stroke of half time with a well-executed driving maul to take the score to 10 -5.The second half started badly for the Hawks when an innocuous injury to star full back Keane Naylor and with two props on the bench this led to a major reshuffle. Despite the changes the lead was extended when a beautiful pass from Ben Dearing put prop Josh Thundercliffe clean through a gap in the centres to romp gleefully under the posts for a try that Ben converted.
The lead was cut back again though when Driffield fought back to create a clear overlap on the left wing to cross for an unconverted try ,and also kicked a penalty shortly afterwards. The game was secured for the Hawks when Jack Colbourne took a quick tap penalty and make good ground before finding back row cum centre Mike Davey who cut a great line to score near the posts.
A good win for the Hawks, who go into the Christmas break looking forward to an extremely challenging second half to the season.
