Ionians lose

Ionians met York in the second round of the cup, in difficult weather conditions at Brantingham Park.

Game started brightly and was keenly contested throughout with solid tackling and defence from both teams.
Ionians scored first when a York attack went astray and James Malcolmson collected the loose ball and ran to the try line to score.

Ionians then had a cross kick try cancelled due to offside and a subsequent repeat performance from a set scrum, saw York intercept on their own line and run down to Ionians line, where they were later able to score and convert. 5 to 7

Ionians while having plenty of good field position weren't able to convert into points and the half time score remained 5 to 7 in favour of York.

Penalty count was stacking up either side of half time and this ill discipline enabled York to gain good field position which led to 2 trys in quick succession. 5 to 19.

In the last 15 minutes Ionians pressed and a try from Danny Couch saw them cut the arrears, but it wasn't enough and York progressed to the quarter finals
