Mike Umaga joins the I's

Hull Ionians RUFC is pleased to announce the appointment of Mike Umaga as Head Coach for season 2019/20.
Mike has a vast amount of experience as a player and a coach at all levels of the game.

As a player, Mike played international rugby for Samoa and played in the English Premiership during an 8 year spell with Rotherham as a Player/Coach.
Mike moved on to coach Coventry and Nuneaton before recently taking up the post as Director of Rugby at Bishop Burton College.

Last season saw Martyn Wood work closely with Mike. This relationship resulted a number of Bishop Burton College RU players playing for Hull Ionians and being heavily involved in the Club achieving promotion from National League 2 North to National League 1, the 3rd tier of English Rugby Union.

Mike has already started putting the lads through their paces at summer training. Early signs are promising but Mike and all involved at the Club are well aware of the challenges to come from playing in National 1.
