We have been playing Fylde for a number of years now, but do we know their history?

Fylde Rugby Club was founded on 25 July 1919, literally on the toss of a coin when a group of Huddersfield businessmen met at Ansdell Institute to discuss the formation of either a rugby union or a football club. A coin was tossed and it fell in favour of rugby union. Hence the similarity in kit between clubs.

The club was strengthened by the merger with Blackpool Old Boys in the 1934–35 season.
Today, the teams still go onto the field wearing the colours of claret, gold and white, which were originally the colours of the Huddersfield Old Boys following the origins of Fylde's formation by Huddersfield businessmen. The colours have not changed, although the design is now modernised.

We last played them at the last game of the 2025 - 2026 season at home at Brantingham Park on 25th April 2026 (only a few short months ago). Hull Ionians came out on top winning 36 - 22. We had a packed crowd that day as we had a contingent in from Holland on a Rugby tour. A very excitable crowd.

They’ll play from almost anywhere on the pitch and spread the ball from side to side. I was proud of the improvements we made as a group last week but I still think we’ve got massive room for improvement and growth as a group and I’m looking forward to seeing if we can do that, this week and get a little bit closer to that perfect match that we chase every Saturday.
