Statement following the RFU's decision to postpone competitive community rugby until the week commencing Monday 21 September
All,
Following the RFU’s decision to delay the start of the competitive community rugby season until the week commencing Monday 21 September, we wanted to provide an update to everyone across our club.
This is understandably frustrating news for our players, coaches, volunteers, sponsors and supporters, however, we have no control over the weather and we fully understand and support the RFU’s decision. Ultimately, the safety and wellbeing of our players and wider rugby community must come first.
Our 1st XV games are governed by the NLR and any decisions on whether our main pitch is playable will be taken in line with the advice provided i.e. Any decision to postpone a game because our pitch is unplayable must be taken by an accredited RFU match official.
Presently, the 1st XV opening game of the season, at home to Huddersfield on 5th September is scheduled to be played, as are all of the following fixtures.
The fixture delay mainly affects the competitive start of the season across our 2nd XV (Buccs), 3rd XV (Ramblers), Women, Age Grade/Colts, and Minis & Juniors section.
For information on Senior Rugby;
2nd XV (Buccs) playing at Level 8, in Yorks 2A, will have one fixture arranged that will be affected – 12th Sept v Northallerton (H). We assume that this will be rearranged to the next available weekend, 10th October (TBC).
Ramblers playing in Eastern Merit Table will have one fixture affected – 19th Sept v Hornsea (H). We would assume that this will be rearranged to the next available weekend, 5th December (TBC).
Hull Ionians Women playing in Women’s NC2 North will have one fixture affected – 20th Sept v Old Crossleyans Women (H). We would assume that this will be rearranged to the next available weekend, 4th October (TBC).
We will provide Age Grade & M/J information when available.
In the meantime, we want to thank everyone involved with the club for their continued patience, understanding and commitment. We look forward to seeing ‘everyone’ back on the pitch, as soon as is possible.
Chris Taylor
Secretary – Hull Ionians RUFC.
