Charlie Kirk Departs for Goole RUFC
Kirky, an Ionian, man and boy, has taken the decision to move to Goole in search of regular rugby. A scrum-half by preference, he has found a consistent berth in the first team difficult to come by, due in no small part to the presence of the unimpeachable Sam Pocklington.
Charlie has unstintingly filled in across the back line and, in my opinion at least, will best be remembered for his two try performance in the victory over local adversary, Hull.
He played a great deal for the Hawks but also represented the first team 94 times over seven seasons, scoring 45 points.
We can do nothing more than wish him every success down at Westfield banks and expect that his Dad will keep us abreast of his progress.
Maliq Holden, Head of Rugby, said:
"One of the best Ionians I’ve ever come across. Humble as they come on the pitch and as weird and wonderful as they come, of it. Loves the rugby club and has always put the club first in whatever he’s done.
In the time I’ve been here, he’s lit up training with his decision-making and natural ability. Him leaving is a real tough one to take because he cares about the club so much… but I think Goole is a perfect opportunity to play with great friends and be a figurehead for their 1st fifteen. I know Charlie will be an Ionian for life so we will see him back at the club in the future, but whilst he’s away we wish him the absolute best!"
And let's not forget him becoming a viral sensation in reaching over 26.7 million views for his birthday post on Instagram :-)
