In Memory of David (Dave) Walker
We are saddened to announce the passing of David (Dave) Walker.
David’s funeral will be held at Willerby Crematorium on Friday 16th October 2026 at 12.30pm.
A Celebration of David’s Life will follow at Brantingham Park from approximately 2.15pm. All those attending the funeral service, together with Hull Ionians members and players who worked with David over the years, are warmly invited to join us.
David was a hugely successful MJ Coach, working alongside Peter Hewitt, with both their sons, Paul and Simon, joining the U6 team in 1983. That group stayed together right through to Colts and became one of the most successful sides over many years, with several players going on to represent Yorkshire and the North of England.
David also leaves a lasting legacy through his company, Beach & Walker, which built Brantingham Park, officially opening in 1996. At the time, it was regarded as one of the finest and most attractive rugby facilities in the North of England.
Perhaps fittingly, several members of that original MJ team gained some of their first work experience by helping with the construction of the park – a wonderful connection between David’s coaching and his contribution to the club and its home.
David gave so much to the development of young players, to Hull Ionians, and to the wider rugby community. Brantingham Park stands as a lasting part of his legacy.
He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
