Travel News
The 1st XV enjoyed a trip to the South coast at the week-end. The team (well Pat mostly) ate an entire flock of chickens in Nandos whilst the senior members and coaching staff had some liquid refreshments in the nearby Whethspoons hostelry. They stayed overnight at the £323 a night Holiday Inn near Heathrow before journeying on to Worthing on Saturday morning. No further details were available at the time of going to press.
Restaurant Review - The Brighton Chinese
I booked a table at this popular restaurant expecting to enjoy a quiet meal whilst being entertained by the resident pianist, unfortunately Desperate Dan and his entourage where occupying the adjacent tables. I couldn't hear myself think never mind concentrate on the extensive menu. Dan and his chums were obviously enjoying their banquet meal and copious amounts of drink.
Hygiene may be a problem because someone kept shouting about 'roaches.
I left having only had a suck on a mint imperial
Jesting aside, Skipper Joe Makin has asked that thanks be offered to the main sponsors, Rob and Adrian Roach, from all the players and backroom staff for their generosity during the evening.
Club News
Alleged allegations made against a senior official have been strenuously denied by Chairman Pat Wilson. When asked to comment Wilson snorted derisively and said “ There is no substance in the allegations, it needles me that they should arise. There is not a gramme of evidence but a line has been drawn and I will deal with it”
Entertainment News
Last Saturday saw the inaugural EBBF held at the club. An array of local ales were well received by those attending, too well received in some cases!
Thanks are extended to Claire Britton for the publicity material and menus, to James Dolton for providing the bar and organising sponsorship for the event from RH Mountfield, Manco Energy and CTI Travel and to the other sponsors Wold Trees, Rudstone Walk, Rob Wood,Andy Jenkinson and Pete Southcott.
We are also indebted to the help provided on the day from Tony Storr and family, Linsey Kissack, Tom Bola and Jack Pott.
For those who would like to get a second taste samples are still available whilst stocks last.
Quotes of the week
From licensee Pete Gaunt (from behind the screen doors) “Would someone please pull off the Randy Monk! “ and him a former public school boy.
From a retired Detective stood right in front of the temporary bar adorned with a dozen beer pumps “ Bloody Hell, I can get a pint of real ale for £2? I’ve just paid £3 for a pint of shandy over there.” Welcome to the club Inspector Clouseau.
