Josh Thundercliffe.
Those of a certain age will remember Dynasty, a family drama governed by the oil tycoon Blake Carrington. Ionians have their own version, Grindale, with Albert Snr. the patriarchal head of the woodworking Thundercliffe clan. A rugby family that have been part of the club for eons, with three lads being part of the M/J section and going on to represent the first team. First up was Albert Jnr, then Luke (a bit of a maverick, having played in the backs) and finally Josh.
Josh made his 100th appearance for the first team this week-end, having played his first game way back in the 2010/11 season, stepping up from the Hawks on a couple of occasions. There is documentary evidence that Josh played in the back-row for the second team but he has made his name as a solid front rower.
He was involved for the next six seasons, until work took him South. He came back in 21/22, before having a couple of seasons away, at Bridlington and Driffield, returning last season to become an integral part of the first team squad.
Josh has crossed the whitewash eight times in total, with half of those coming when he returned in 20/21, and has managed one this time out. We wish him well for the rest of the campaign and hope he can add to his tally.
