The weather was horrible - rainy (heavy at times) and cold. But, fresh from boxing training and mental preparation coaching, the lads were really up for giving a winning performance from the off.
The first game of the morning was Ionians Spartans against hosts Driffield, who also played skillfully and hard, such that the half time whistle blew with the score at 0-0.
Ionians Spartans kept their focus and stepped up the pace in the second half. It wasnt long before, the forwards having won the scrum, the ball was passed skillfully by each player on the back row from the left of the field right along to the right, where Mongo took off, through Driffield lines, to score. A few minutes later, with a scrum won just in front of the Driffield line and Benny T took the ball over.
Malton won the second game of the morning, against Driffield, with the score at 28-0.
Fighting off the cold and damp, the Spartans then took to the field against Malton. Both teams fought really hard, with rugby skill and hard tackling but neither could break the other. Jobo nearly took the ball over in the right hand corner just as the final whistle went but was just short and the final score was 0-0.
Pleased as punch with the lads' attitude, effort and intent, the coaches awarded every team memebr the Man of the Match award for a thrilling morning's rugby.
