Ionians in positive form for Semi Final

Ionians U14s travelled to a cold and snowy Scunthorpe last Sunday. Taking with them on their travels a formidable record including 14 wins and a score sheet since the new year of 218 points for, with only 12 against. I's defence has stood firm this year only breached on the rarest occasions. With solid defence and attacking options all over the park, on their day I's will give most teams a challenging fixture.
Marshall started the scoring on Sunday with barely 3 minutes on the clock as his awareness and quick reactions saw him seize a fumble from his opposite number and smash over the try line from close range. 5-0. Captain James Malcolmson was next on the score sheet as he is most weeks, just 2mins later as he took the ball at the front of the line-out and run through under the posts leaving the defence in his wake. Kirk adding the conversion 12-0. Brad was next to score as it was all one way traffic with Scunthorpe barely getting set as a rampant Is attacked relentlessly, Myers spun quick ball out to the inside centre leaving him to power through beating the last 3 defenders scoring under the posts, Myers converted 19-0. Scunthorpe kicked off again, and the I's pack were quickly on top gaining the ball and driving upfield, support play was in abundance as Will Robinson drove through to the try line from close range, Myers again with the conversion 26-0. The ball was recycled well for the next score as Jack Denly hit the ball at pace and chose the correct line to smash over from 2yds out, 31-0. By this time Scunthorpe had barely managed to enter the Is half barring the re-starts, Danny Betts took the restart and powered through from halfway, well supported by the forwards who recycled the ball well, a quick reverse pass from Kirk to James on the blind side enabled the no8 to drive home unopposed taking the score to 36-0 for half time.
The second half began as the first ended many Ionians changes but this did not disrupt the team at all, the scoring was relentless as I's swept Scunthorpe aside, another sweeping move from the backs and excellent support from Betts and Malcolmson ended with the ball in the pacey Jo Walkers hands 20yds out, he stretched his legs to score out wide 41-0. A great catch by Luke from the restart and drive upfield as tackled he slipped the ball to Jim bob who raced in from halfway to score his third of the game, Myers adding the extra 2, 48-0 Credit has to be given to Scunthorpe as they were on the end of attack after attack but they managed a good 10 minute spell in the second half where they were deep in Is territory pressing hard for the score but Is defence was resolute and they managed to clear their lines in the best way they no how,.......attack. The backs played quick ball across the park with Clarkson and Cade supporting each other well, resulting in Brad powering through from the 22, Myers adding the extra 55-0, the game was wrapped up by James taking a great ball from Luke again running the ball in unopposed 60-0FT, I's once again showing their strength in depth as they travelled missing a handful of players out through illness.
