A game of two halves

Perfect weather conditions gave both teams the opportunity to play good rugby in this tie. Ionians dominated the first half, with good hands, good running and good tackling features of their game. Ionians pressured the Driffield line in the first five minutes, with breaks from Harvey, Jack D, Danny C and Cadey, however the final pass wasn't there to get them across the line. However, finally a second break from Harvey, saw I's get close, with James M collecting the ball off the loose ball and crashing over for the first try. 5 - 0.

Driffield restart and Marshall collected the ball and started to run into the Drifield half, ably supported by Jack D, and Toms V at the breakdown, ball through hands, enabled Adam M to kick the ball towards the Driffield line, where James M sprung up again to collect the ball and dive over to double the lead, 10 - 0.

I's pack was dominating now, with a solid scrum and excellent recycling at the breakdown, they played a lot of the half in Driffield's 22. Good work from Will P in the loose, a dazzling sidestep from Ghost, and passing through the centres hands, Olly P, Danny C, Brad saw Cadey break through and get over the line.

Immediately from the restart Will R caught the ball, passed to Marshall, back to Will R, and a pass on to Toms, saw Ionians stretch the lead to 22 - 0, conversion scored Charlie K.

Restart again saw I's take possession, however, a missed pass in the centre, saw the Driffield centre burst through, only for fullback Adam, to make the tackle and keep the visitors at bayI's moved the ball upfield and good work from Danny C and a pass to Brad saw the centre Hand off the Driffield full back to score under the posts. 29 - 0.

With halftime looming, Jack D powered through again, to make some good yardage for I's and supported by Harvey, Toms was able to score his second try of the day

Half Time 34 - 0

Second half saw I's make 8 changes to the team, and while the scoring stopped, scrums were solid as well as line outs and I's continued to hold a lot of possession. A thunderous run by Will T saw him ready to score the next points, only to drop the ball yards from the line. The referee stepped into disallow another I's try, 2 minutes later, however, eventually, Harry L found Will R from the line out and having made 15 yards a quick pass to James M saw him complete his hat trick of tries. With 10 minutes to go, James M collected quick ball, to score again. 44 - 0.

the last 10 minutes were then a credit to Driffield, who ran in 3 converted tries, with I's only replying with an unconverted try by James M, his 5th try of the match.

Final Score 49 - 21 in favour of Ionians,
