Sandal match Report by Ady Magee

Hull Ionians under 13 got the new year off to a great start with an impressive win 48-22 against Sandal.

Both sides had some early ball and work through several phases. It was Ionians forward that started to win the break down, with line breaks form Archie and Jim Ionians started to gain ground. When a ball kick through was chased down by James Magee the ball kick through to score under the post. Ionians Pack worked hard winning the ruck and plenty of 50/50 balls. Second try can from débutante Brad, ball won once again by the forward was work out wide by the back for Brad to bet the defence then score.

Ionian continued to recycle the ball well and Sandal could not match their commitment at the break down, the pressure lead to further try’s for Harry and Jim. Sandal then started to win some ball and a well worked move down field lead to the ball been move to the blind side and the prop slipped out a fantastic ball to on loan Conker to score in the corner for Sandal.

Sandal come out the second half well, moving the ball and causing Ionians defence to work hard to keep them out. Hull continued to work the ball out wide and some strong runs by Brad and Charlie eventual lead to Brad backing himself and scoring again after beating the Sandal defence.

Forwards continued working to win the breakdown and once again Jim scored a try for his hat trick. Sandal then re-grouped started to get the upper hand, once again the ball was move wide to guest winger Paul E to crash into the corner for Sandal. From a rare penalty for Ionians the ball was quickly tapped by James to skip through the defence and score.

Sandal finished the game stronger, some poor defence in the final 5 minutes and a unfavourable penalty count lead to a couple of try and a kick for the visitors.

A fantastic performance from a hard working pack set the platform for the backs, with the half backs linking well to giving a great team performance and solid platform to star the new year.
