Playing in a full gale across the pitch was never easy with any kicks invariably going across the field into touch and only short passes would make their mark. In consequence both teams played close 3 man tackling of the ball carrier making progress difficult.
The Buccs withstood early pressure then worked their way to the 22. The forwards were initially held then a good pass put Lewis Parkinson in space to carve his way to the posts where he added the goal. Five minutes later they were attacking again where Ryan Platten proved unstoppable from 5 metres out.
With the Buccaneers pack driving Moortown back off the scrum Brad Willingham dived over as the ball came out but could not quite hold on in the tangle of legs. However ten minutes later he made no mistake dummying over after a close range maul, Lewis Parkinson again converting from by the posts.
The third quarter was played out in midfield with neither team able to make a break through but on 65 minutes moving the ball wide off a dominant 5 metre scrum saw centre Theo Tyrer through to score the bonus point try, Parkinson again converting.
The Buccaneers continued to move the ball wide and in the final minutes Lewis Parkinson broke through from his own half then chipped over the cover, regathered and scored the final try.
In a match dominated by forward play it is no surprise that wing forward Pete McGlynn earned man of the match. Other noticeable players were Lewis Parkinson making his first start at 10 and had a great game with 2 trys, Toms Vickops and James Malcolmson still performing extremely well and Theo Tyrer in the centre was a wrecking ball in attack and strong in defence. Finally it was Brad Willingham’s first try in 4 seasons.
