The Buccaneers defended well against early pressure before working their way up the field, helped by a couple of penalties. Camped 5 metres out their drives were held left then right before Will Gaunt ran wide to score in the corner, Adam Bouncer adding the touchline conversion. They then tried to run the restart off their own line, were stripped of the ball and conceded a soft converted try. Ten minutes later the Buccaneers forwards completed a series of pick and goes starting from the 22 for Pete McGlynn to be finally driven over. Once again failing to clear the restart and conceding a penalty put them under pressure for Phoenix to cross again to lead 14-12 at the break.
The second half saw the team play with confidence and soon take the lead when Adam Bouncer kicked a penalty then two minutes later good support play saw centre Chris Glover score, Bouncer again adding the goal.
To close the half Doncaster frustration showed when first they received a red card for a reckless high tackle then a few minutes later a yellow card for collapsing a driving maul just short of the line. The Buccaneers took advantage with fullback Paul Evison racing in to the corner for the bonus point try.
