Moortown made a lively start, controlled possession well and after 8 minutes took the lead with a converted try before the Buccaneers had the ball. Possession was now retained by the Buccaneers who took play up field where flanker Marshall Hallgate finally crossed, Charlie Kirk levelling the scores with the conversion. Pressure was sustained helped by a penalty kicked to the corner and though initially held at the line the forwards finally drove Will Gaunt over, Kirk again converting.
The match then flowed from end to end in a fierce but fair contest as both sides pushed hard for points. On the hour mark Moortown finally broke through to make it 14-12 to the hosts and game really on.
The Buccaneers strong running gained them ground and from close range the forwards drove Pete McGlynn over for the winning try. A strong defence then kept the visitors out until the final whistle for a deserved victory.
