With apologies for the curtailed report. Ionians entertained Wharfedale on bright spring day. Good start from Ionians saw them gain good field position in Wharfedales 22, however with resolute defending they were unable to breach the defence. An attack through Wharfedales backs, with a kick and chase saw the speedy wing, grab the opening score. 7 to 0.
A clash of heads between 2 Ionians players saw a delay in play, as both players went off to hospital, thankfully both subsequently found to be ok, if a little groggy.
In the interim, Ionians had pegged back through a Kirk Penalty, 7 to 3.
Wharefdale then were awarded a penalty try, 14 to 3,
Before half time, turnover ball, and a pass out to full back Danny Couch, saw him dance though a couple of tackles and then score under the posts. 14 to 10 at half time.
The score remained the same throughout the second half until the final attack when, Wharfedale were able to score a third converted try and the final score was 21 to 10 for the visitors, avenging their earlier season defeat.
From what was seen by the author, it looked a very competitive game, Luke Waudby made a teriffic break for Ionians running 50 yards until dragged down just short of the try line. Harvey also made a good break near the end. Danny Couch was solid at full back, with good catching and his try, deservedly getting man of the match
