Tight win for U15

Under 15s Review
Ionians win again

For the second week running the Under15s won a tight game by 12pts to 5, this time against West Park Leeds.

With a really good turn-out this week it provided a good opportunity to rotate the squad during the game, and once again it was a performance where every single player contributed. It was a very different game to last week’s, but once again the team successfully adapted their approach to respond to the tactical approach of the opposition – a really positive sign for the future.

After missing a few opportunities early on, Ionians finally took the lead just before half-time and then straight from the kick-off scored again to lead 12-0 at the break. The second half was a lot less structured and despite coming very close, Ionians could not extend their lead. West Park did manage a score with about 5 minutes left, but Ionians managed to see the game out without any further scares.

Moment of the Match
It has to be the second try. A nice clean catch, followed by a switch of play away from the West Park Leeds’ forwards, allowed the backs to create the overlap. The line break was then supported by No.8 Matt Rosso who sprinted in for an excellent team try.

Sporting Cliché of the Day
Taking each game as it comes
Having come through a tight semi-final the weekend before, it was really pleasing to see no drop off in effort and commitment from anybody this week. The key to not only keeping this run going is to focus on the each game and worry about the Plate Final when it comes, the end of April is still a long way off.

Man of the Match
It’s one thing knowing what the opposition might do, but even if you have a plan you have to execute it and this week’s winner did exactly what was asked of him. He was always there to take the clearing kicks on the full but also sparked a number of threatening counter-attacks. Well done Luke Adams!
