A fantastic effort by the 15 fit and available Under 15 players (there were 9 lads unavailable for today) saw Ionians extend their current winning run to 7. It was also our first game since November, so to start the game in the manner they did was outstanding, but to continue the performance for the full game really showed the strength of our squad.
The rucking was outstanding, we got the ball wide throughout the game, and once again the scramble defence was amazing. Again!
Scorers
Tries - Fergus Croston, Robson Jones (2), Lewis Montgomery
Cons - Ifan Downey (3)
Sporting Cliche of the Day
There were 15 man of the match performances.
The coaches could have given the award to a number of players today, and a lot of really good reasons for someone different to who we finally decided on. We had a try scorer in his first game if Union, someone just back from a 3 month lay off, and numerous players out of position. As this season develops , picking our strongest XV is getting more difficult with every week. Which is a good thing !
Moment of the Match
The first score can help set the tone for the rest of the game. For Is to receive the kick off and set off up the field through backs and forwards, with a winger eventually going over for a score. At this stage the only Market Rasen player to touch the ball had taken the kick off!
Every player was involved in the build up. Great stuff!
Man of the Match
Having said how well everyone performed to date, there has to be an award given. This week, the successful player is one who has reaped the reward for a more positive attitude to training and playing, that is now allowing him to contribute to the effort for the full 60 minutes. As well as an improved fitness he is now contributing a lot more to the team effort in attack and defence, and long may it continue to improve. Well done Tom Lewis!
And Finally!
Given our lack of rugby,of late, and therefore Reviews, there hasn't been an opportunity to congratulate two of our squad on their selection for representative squads. Ben Carlile has followed up his Yorkshire U16 honours with selection for the North U16 squad. In addition Robson Jones was successful in being called up for the Yorkshire U15 squad.
A great achievement by both players, and we wish them both well in the coming months. It should also act as real encouragement to the others that they join Ben and Robson when the next opportunity to impress selectors comes along.
In the meantime - well done and good luck Ben and Robson!
