Smells Like Team Spirit

As suggested last week, today was a very different game from the fixture between these two teams last week.

It was our sixth win in a row, and saw Ionians reach the semi-final of the Yorkshire Plate, however the day is about the injury to Ben Taylor. All our thoughts are with Ben and we all wish him a speedy recovery.

With all this disruption before and during the game (injuries and unavailability), the fact that our disjointed display led to a win, was down to the fantastic effort by our last available 15 players to prevent York crossing our line in the second half. It's been said before but you really can't buy the spirit and effort that this team display over and over again.

Unfortunately with our injury list and players at various selection trials next Sunday, means we have to cancel our fixture at Sheffield, we simply don't have 15 players available. We have decided to cancel training next Sunday as well, meaning many families can enjoy a more 'relaxing' weekend.

Scorers
Tries - Robson Jones (2)
Cons - Ifan Downey (2)

Sporting Cliche of the Day
A sign of a good team is one that wins when not playing well
Today that's not strictly the case. We defended superbly, it just didn't happen for us with the ball. We learn form this and we move on, but if we stop the opposition from scoring we've always got a chance!

Moment of the Match
What typified the collective effort in the second half was the defence in and around the ruck. One sequence in particular, was one individual made a series of tackles that sent the runners backwards, but then he quickly got back on his feet ready to make another. It demonstrated the massive improvement this individual has made this season = well done Matt Green!

Man of the Match
He was definitely our get out of jail free card today, with two individual efforts to win the game. But he also showed how to pick a smart line to run, in a game with little space or opportunities, as an attacking threat he was a class above today - well played Robson Jones

And finally!
It has come to my attention that some of our squad could benefit from a 'refresh' of some of rugby's finer points and less well known rules! I won't embarrass anyone on this page but we don't celebrate catching the ball;). Do some research you could be tested on Tuesday!
