On a lovely autumnal day in the Dearne Valley, Ionians Under 15s put in a great team performance to defeat Wath 31-0. All 17 of the squad involved contributed positively to the effort, with many playing out of position as well.
Scorers
Tries - Robson Jones (4), Ben Taylor
Con - Luke Adams, Ifan Downey (2)
Moment of the Day
As an old forward I loved the driving maul at the end the first half, that took play from our own 5 metre line, and ended with a clearing kick to touch on the half-way line. But on this occasion I will give it to the short pass from Henry Foster that put Robson Jones through a hole, and on his way to another try. It can be a really simple game, rugby!
Sporting Cliche of the Day
It's said that forwards win matches and the backs decide by how much, and this was certainly the case yesterday. The pack put in a huge effort for the full 60 mins providing the backs with plenty of good quality, go forward ball. They disrupted the opposition ball throughout and also won scrum ball against the head. Then it was 5 tries scored by the three-quarters on the back of this platform that won the game.
Things Coaches Love Award
The commitment and effort by everyone to repel the pressure Wath exerted on the try line early in the second half was fantastic to see, and shows real team spirit.
Man of the Match
Given the way the team played there were many candidates this week. Therefore the deciding factor this week is the try scoring exploits of Robson Jones. 4 this week, after 4 the week before.
